The Presque Isle Lifeguard Association is pleased to have been able to provide scholarship opportunities for Active Presque Isle Lifeguards since 2010. In order to qualify for the 2018 scholarship, Lifeguards were required to:
- Volunteer for special events throughout the Summer Season
- Maintain a record free of disciplinary issues
- Arrive on time for all scheduled work hours and events
- Be enrolled in an accredited trade school/ college/ or university, or must be currently paying towards higher education debt.
There were a total of 22 lifeguards who qualified for the scholarship this year. Every name was entered into a random drawing at the end of the season. Two winners were chosen for the 2018 season and each has received a $500 scholarship presented by the Presque Isle Lifeguard Association.
Brent Benedict has been a Presque Isle Lifeguard since 2017; he is currently majoring in Sports Management at Gannon University.
Darren Redding has been a Presque Isle Lifeguard since 2001; he completed a BA in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology in 2004 at Edinboro University. Darren also earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2012, from Edinboro University.
Presque Isle Lifeguard Association membership fees, donations, and fundraisers all contribute to our ability to award these scholarships. Please consider joining the Presque Isle Lifeguard Association, or making a donation. This is one of the ways we can thank these young men and women for their hard work and dedication to the safety and success of each Summer on our beautiful beaches.
